Restorative Justice Training

The Communities Empowerment Network (CEN) are delivering training with Access4Education

The Communities Empowerment Network (CEN) offers Restorative Justice (RJ) seminars, workshops and full conference training to organisations across the UK and Internationally, looking to source high quality provision that achieves value for money. As a result, training delivers to 'The RJ Principles', 'The Best Practice Guidance' and 'The National Occupational Standards' whilst ensuring the most competitive prices you will find are offered. We do this as we want high quality restorative approaches being used in communities that don't cost the earth to achieve and make a tangible, practical and measurable difference.

Restorative Justice is ‘…a process whereby all the parties with a stake in a particular offence (or incident) come together to resolve collectively how to deal with the aftermath of the offence and the implications for the future’ (Marshall, 1999). The CEN embraces this view and believes it too has a stake in the communities it offers training to and seeks to work closely with commissioning organisations to ensure that all training delivers to the needs of those on our courses.

Training

Trainers are registered with the Restorative Justice Council and our courses are to a nationally recognised standard preparing participants to deliver a full RJ conference at the end of a 4 day course.

Training can be delivered at venues organised by commissioners - this helps with achieving value for money. We offer RJ taster sessions, 1 day introductory courses, 2 day awareness training and 4 day Facilitators' training.

If you are looking to use Family Group Conferences as an outcome for child protection panels or restorative conferencing to repair the harm caused in organisations and communities, then the full 4 day RJ Facilitators' training is for you.

Typically, our RJ seminars, workshops and training are taken up by schools; youth workers; youth offending services; social care services; residential care staff; community and voluntary services; probation services; police forces; local authorities; and human resource personnel.

2 day RJ awareness training - max. 30 people

4 day RJ Facilitators training - max. 12 people + 18 on first 2 days RJ awareness training

Prices

  • Free to students over 18 studying at college and university accessing training organised by their institution;
  • Free to the long-term unemployed accessing training organised by the Job Centre;
  • Organisations / employers - £400 day rate of RJ Trainer - manuals per trainee Facilitator at an additional cost of £20 per person - petrol charged at 45p per mile, accommodation costs incurred if further than 100 miles from London.

On courses organised by a commissioning body (excluding universities/colleges and job centres), the organisation may charge individuals their own rate in order to cover venue hire and refreshments. A typical example would be to charge trainee Facilitators on a 4 day course £185 each. This constitutes training at less than £50 per day. A benefit to this approach is that all costs can be covered and additional places can be offered to those only wishing to take the 2 day awareness training.

We can afford to charge rates which we believe are the lowest you will find as we do not have overheads like many of the organisations running RJ as a business. This does not mean the training is of a lesser quality, indeed, past participants have said that they have learnt more in one day on the course than on a 3 day course they paid £800 per person for from other RJ training organisations.

RJ Facilitator Volunteers

Join us as a volunteer! We will provide free training to students and the long-term unemployed taking part in courses organised by their respective bodies. If they aren't delivering a course in your area, ask your course leader or employment advisor to contact us now! We hope to prepare you fully with the best training you will find in the UK and match you up to organisations in your area so that you can practice your newly acquired RJ Facilitator skills and gain experience with the knowledge that you are being supported by us in your volunteer role. We hope that this will benefit your studies, curriculum vitae and most importantly the communities that you either live in or hope to be working with in the future. We hope that RJ Facilitator volunteers who have been trained by us, will offer their time on a voluntary basis for the course of their studies or until employment is found. We will reimburse volunteers who are attending organisations arranged by Access4Education with their travel expenses in return for their receipts.

RJ Conference Facilitation

RJ conferences will take approximately 1 day in casework time. This ofcourse depends on the individual case, however, where it is suspected more time is required we will consult with the referring agency prior to starting work. Casework includes meeting both the victim and perpetrator on a home visit or at a pre-arranged venue and conducting the RJ conference itself. RJ outcome agreements will need to be followed up by the referral agency. Our RJ Facilitators can be approached on a case by case basis.
